About Fashion Story

Fashion Story is a silly game by Team Lava that I seem to be hopelessly addicted to. The minimal "strategy" and complete lack of risk and talent required to play initially lead me to believe I was the only person over 12 years old playing the game. I was wrong. The digital dollhouse is a fashion and design outlet enjoyed by all ages across the wired world. There's probably even boys and men playing.

Though you can opt to spend money for special perks in the game, it is free to download and play. Starting with a small retail space and a few coins, you order women's clothes and accessories, wait for their arrival, and sell them to increase your points (level up) and purse. As you go, additional items to pretty-up your boutique become available. New clothes are added with each level also, which you both continue to sell and add to your "closet" to play dress up with your avatar. To add interest, there is a basic social aspect included wherein you can look at other players' boutiques and write short messages back and forth.

On one hand, the game's simple nature makes it a fun way for me to unwind after work. On the other hand, it tends to get boring. I recently discovered that some players are coming up with ways to add interest to the game:

1) Blogs. I confess, the first time I ran into a blog about Fashion Story I was amazed that anyone would waste their time by writing about how they waste their time. Wait, back up. The first time a ran into a blog about Fashion Story I assumed it was written by a young girl and I was impressed she would expand her interests by creating and maintaining a site about it. Then, I figured out adult women were wholeheartedly jumping into this also - and I thought that was pretty lame. But my husband (yes, I'm at least that old) correctly informed me I was being a snob. After all, I waste tons of time on ridiculous things too.

2) Avatar contests. The part of the game that sucks up your time and fake (or real) money but gives you no points in return can now give you glory. Players recruit via boutique to boutique messages to find contestants and hold themed dress up contests. After all, competition is what makes the world of fashion turn.

So with a new bout of game boredom coming on, I have decided to merge these two activities into The Greatest Fashion Story Avatar Contest Ever! Ain't life grand?
